Car Rental:
For those looking to venture deep into Naxos’ rugged interior or explore the less-traveled paths, renting a car is the ideal choice. Some parts of the island boast challenging terrains and less-maintained roads, making a sturdy vehicle a necessity for an adventurous journey. Though this might be the more expensive option, keep in mind that a car provides the flexibility to explore at your own pace and access remote areas.
- Good tip: The price per day is cheaper, the more days you rent the car for. Furthermore, some of the rental companies located right by the ferry terminal has quite high rental prices, so you might want to look into renting from some companies located further inside the city or having made a booking in advance from home.
ATV or Scooter:
If you’re up for a bit of excitement and don’t mind traversing bumpy roads, renting an ATV or scooter can be a thrilling way to explore Naxos. These nimble vehicles are perfect for navigating the island’s narrow streets and offer a sense of freedom as you wind your way through picturesque villages and along scenic coastlines. However, it’s important to exercise caution on rougher terrain, especially when embarking on off-the-beaten-path adventures.
- Good tip: I would recommend renting an ATV over a scooter. Some of the roads can be pretty bumpy and/or steep, so an ATV makes it more pleasant and easier to drive up hills. An ATV also comes with a box on the bag, in which you can keep bags and other belongings to bring on your trip.
- Price: I paid €45 per day to rent the cheapest ATV available. Insurance and helmets were included in the price. I rented from the company ‘Motopower Naxos‘ located in Agios Prokopios, and personally had a great experience. I made sure to deliver the ATV in the same condition as I received it, and with the same amount of fuel I received it. Always make sure to take pictures before taking over the vehicle, no matter what type of vehicle you rent!
Local Buses:
Naxos has a well-connected bus network that offers a convenient and cost-effective way to get around. The buses serve popular destinations and connect the main towns and villages. While they may not reach every remote corner of the island, they are a reliable option for reaching many of the places recommended in this guide, as well as experiencing local life and culture.
- Good to know: You cannot buy tickets onboard of the buses. So, make sure to buy your bus tickets in advance. Bus tickets can be bought at local convenience stores or at the bus station by the ferry terminal. Just ask the locals, and they will point you to the nearest convenience store.
Taxis:
Taxis are readily available in Naxos Town and the main tourist areas. They provide a convenient and comfortable way to travel, especially for shorter distances or when you prefer to let someone else do the driving.
- Good to know: To the parts of the island covered in this guide, you can easily travel with the buses and by a bit of walking or with your rented vehicle, so I would not bother to spend money on a taxi.
Walking and Cycling:
If you’re staying in the heart of Naxos Town or one of the island’s charming villages, exploring on foot or by bicycle can be a delightful experience. Many attractions, restaurants, and shops are within walking distance, allowing you to immerse yourself in the local ambiance.
- Good to know: Naxos is quite hilly, and can be very warm during summer, so you need to consider that it might become a sweaty experience, before renting a bicycle.

You have the option to rent sunbeds or simply bring your own towel and sunchairs to the beach. It is furthermore lined with beachfront tavernas serving delicious Greek cuisine, which offers the perfect opportunity to savor local flavors while gazing at the azure horizon.
