HOW TO GET AROUND:
Getting around Bergen is pretty straightforward, whether you’re sticking to the city or venturing out to the beautiful surrounding nature.
- Public Transport: Bergen has a reliable bus network that covers the city and nearby towns. You can use the Skyss buses, which are easy to navigate and have apps for schedules and tickets. If you want to explore further, there are regional buses that connect Bergen with places like Modalen, Osterøy, and more.
- By Foot: Bergen’s city center is very walkable, with charming streets, shops, and attractions all close together. Many hiking trailheads, like Fløyen and Rundemanen, are accessible right from downtown, so you can start your adventure straight from your accommodation.
- Funiculars and Cable Cars: For quick access to mountain views, take the Fløibanen funicular up Mount Fløyen or the Ulriksbanen cable car to Mount Ulriken. Both offer fantastic panoramas and are a fun way to save your energy for hiking.
- Car Rentals: If you want to explore more remote spots or travel at your own pace, renting a car is a great option. Roads around Bergen are well-maintained, but keep in mind some mountain roads can be narrow and winding.
- Bike Rentals: For a more active way to get around town, you can rent bikes or e-bikes. It’s a great way to enjoy the city and nearby trails, especially in the warmer months.
No matter how you get around, Bergen and its surroundings are ready to impress!

WHERE TO get good coffee & cinnamon rolls
1. Kaffemisjonen

One of Bergen’s most-loved independent coffee shops, Kaffemisjonen roasts its own beans and serves expertly made espresso, pour-overs, and filter coffee. With a relaxed yet vibrant vibe, it’s a great place to sit back, sip something delicious, and maybe sample their carrot cake or toast. A local favorite for good reason.
2. Fjåk Chocolate Cafe

Craving something a bit sweeter? Fjåk is your spot. Their bean-to-bar hot chocolate is legendary (ask for it with marshmallows!) and their fresh pastries make it a cozy retreat. A delight whether you’re caffeinated or cocoa-inclined.
3. Bod24 Sandviken

Bod24 Sandviken is my favourite of all. It is a charming café nestled by the harbor, Bod24 is a go-to spot for locals seeking delicious coffee and top-tier skillingsbolle (cinnamon buns). It’s relaxed, friendly, and a perfect place to unwind with a view. Reviews often praise their cinnamon buns as among the best in town (I completely agree).
4. Bergen Kaffebrenneri

Their pastries, including buttery croissants and house-made cinnamon rolls, pair perfectly with a well-pulled espresso. The space is welcoming, low-key, and a favorite among coffee lovers.
5. Solros Cafe and Bakery

Solros Bakery is a small bakery in Marken that quickly became one of my favorite spots in Bergen. It’s located in a charming blue wooden house and has a very cozy, local feel. Everything is baked with a focus on seasonal and organic ingredients, and you can really taste the care that goes into it.
If you want the best selection, it’s a good idea to come earlier in the day, as the most popular pastries tend to sell out. It’s the perfect place to pick up a coffee and something sweet before continuing to explore the city. Here’s a few more tips for your visit at this bakery:
Go early. The bakery is small and many of the pastries sell out quickly, especially on weekends.
Try one of their buns. Norwegian bakeries are famous for their cardamom buns, and Solros usually has some great seasonal variations.
Take it to go. There isn’t a lot of seating, so it’s a great place to grab a pastry and coffee and enjoy it while walking around Bergen.
Pair it with a stroll through Marken. The bakery is located on a cute pedestrian street with colorful wooden houses, so it’s a nice little area to wander through.
Perfect pre-hike stop. It’s a great place to grab a pastry or sandwich before heading toward the Fløyen hike.
Look for seasonal pastries. They often change the menu depending on the season, which makes every visit a little different.
6. Fløistuen

At the top of Mount Fløyen, a bakery/café called ‘Fløistuen’ is located. It is the perfect place to pause after the climb, and an ideal spot to warm up with a coffee and a pastry, or to reward yourself with a proper meal after the hike up.
If you want to try a good sweet, then the cinnamon roll with cream in the middle is a delicious treat to try.
Here’s a few tips if you are visiting Fløyen:
Visit early or late in the day. Midday can get busy when the funicular arrives with visitors, so morning or evening tends to be calmer and better for enjoying the views.
Check the terrace if the weather is nice. On sunny days, sitting outside with a coffee and pastry while overlooking Bergen is one of the best simple experiences in the city.
- Use it as a starting point for longer hikes. From here, several well-marked trails continue deeper into the mountains around Bergen if you want to extend your walk.
ENJOY BERGEN!
